The Atlanta Bluegrass All-Stars are Sonny Houston, Buck Peacock and Tom Hicks. These three guys are the core of a group that includes some of the best banjo and bass players in the area to round out their bluegrass sound. They are a seasoned bunch of quality pickers, with 45 years of professional experience behind them. Their resume of significant appearances goes all the way back to the roots of NewGrass music, and all the way forward to numerous appearances in the classic Atlanta musical, “The Cotton Patch Gospel”. Besides the usual barbeque get togethers that always feature the native music of the South, their most recent gigs have included a four week series at The Atlanta Botanical Gardens, a Fund Raiser for Democratic Presidential Candidate John Edwards (the band was great…John didn’t do so well), and two prestigious events produced by Steven Darsey, Choral Director at Glenn Memorial Methodist Church at Emory University. Darsey and his Meridian Herald Chorale, combined with The Atlanta Bluegrass All-Stars for the fourteenth edition of Darsey’s Southern Folk Advent (Sonny has been a part of all fourteen), and a special Old Time Camp Meeting at the historic Smyrna Campground in Conyers, GA. The Atlanta Bluegrass All-Stars can do it all. They cover a lot of territory, from hard drivin’, hard core bluegrass, to modern acoustic Americana, to solid four part harmony Gospel. They have never failed to please a crowd.
